Tribal secretaries, office managers,
records managers and program personnel need guidance in organizing, storing and
disposing of records as well as procedures for protecting the confidentiality of
information within the records. This seminar provides detailed procedures in
records management techniques including the fundamentals of records management,
organization and design of files, filing and storage systems, records retention
requirements, access procedures, and automation. Tribal governments are also
required to establish records confidentiality procedures to protect the rights
of privacy of individuals under the jurisdiction of the Tribe. Personal rights
of privacy are established under constitutional law, the Indian Civil Rights Act
and various program requirements including the Privacy Act, HIPAA and FOIA.
During this training will be an overview of these and other confidentiality
requirements and suggestions on how to establish and implement policies for
records confidentiality. This course is for all program managers, personnel
department staff and records managers.
