Indian preference under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 and the Indian preference requirements under ' 638 create a confusing and often misunderstood maze of issues. Tribal and federal officials often struggle with P.L. 93-638, which provides an opportunity for Tribes to apply the concepts of Indian preference in employment and to contractors working on the reservation. Tribal personnel are impacted by new case law concerning these hiring practices. This seminar explores the hiring aspects of TERO, contractual relationships involved, and the required components of Tribal law and employment issues under Indian preference. This seminar is for Tribal leaders, managers, personnel staff, and TERO personnel.
