Drugs AND LAW ENFORCEMENT IN INDIAN
COUNTRY

This seminar is designed to provide an understanding of the status of law enforcement and drugs in Indian Country. Also, how to conduct an investigation into drug use in Indian Country will be covered. Other topics include types of illegal drugs and how to identify them, pertinent drug information, learning signs of drug use using behavior, paraphernalia and physical characteristics, as well as signs of gang activity and gang related drug trade. Another area of focus will be how to conduct an investigation into drug use and how jurisdiction, use of informants, search warrants, probable cause and "plain view" doctrine affect the investigation. Tribal responsibility in inter-agency communication will be addressed including social services programs, child welfare agencies, juvenile courts and child protection services. This seminar is for all law enforcement personnel, social service staff, especially staff involved in child protection, Tribal housing programs, and other programs involved in combating drug use in Indian Country.
